How do I import the posted PGN-games into Winboard.
Do I really have to copy them into Notepad and than save the file with extension .pgn or is there a direct way ?
And how about Fritz 5.00 ?
Thanks
Knut
You can't import it into Winboard, a pgn file is an ascii text file, here's an example of one that came with the Comet program:
[Event "15th WMCC"]
[Site "Paris"]
[Date "1997.10.26"]
[Round "1"]
[White "Ananse / K6-200"]
[Black "Chess Guru / Alpha 500"]
[Result "0-1"]
[ECO "E70"]
[PlyCount "57"]
[EventDate "1997.10.26"]
1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7 4. e4 d6 5. Qb3 e5 6. dxe5 dxe5 7. Be2 Nc6 8. Nf3
Nd4 9. Qd1 Bg4 10. Nxd4 exd4 11. Bxg4 dxc3 12. Bf3 Qxd1+ 13. Kxd1 O-O-O+ 14.
Kc2 Rhe8 15. Bg5 cxb2 16. Rae1 Rd4 17. Kxb2 Nxe4 18. Ka3 Rd3+ 19. Ka4 Nc5+ 20.
Kb5 a6+ 21. Kxc5 Bf8+ 22. Re7 Rxe7 23. Bxb7+ Kxb7 24. Rb1+ Kc8 25. Bxe7 Bxe7+
26. Kc6 Rd6+ 27. Kc5 Rd1+ 28. Kc6 Rxb1 29. g3 0-1
I'd recommend associating the pgn file type with Wordpad (not Notepad) because Wordpad can open up much larger files. In wordpad when you save a file, go saveas, and at the bottom of the dialog box, click on "save as type" and select "text document-msdos text" and then name the pgn file filename.pgn
The same thing will work with Fritz or any other pgn reader, but if you want to know the ins and outs of useing Fritz then you should go to the Chessbase site and see Steve Lopez's T-Notes page becaus Steve knows most things about Chessbase products and his page offers many helpfull tips.
