Announcement about Tuxedo

Tom was not happy with a TSCP derivative being hosted on my ftp site.
Pending future permission by Tom (should Anand and he work out an agreement) the program has been removed from my FTP site.
Too bad.

Hello Dann,
You must be prescient.
I have to admit that the time has come when authors are increasingly becoming very protective of their works.
They created them so I suppose that they have all right so to do. As you commented, there will be a sharp increase in re-inventing the wheel if this trend continues.
Ah well, a person is entitled to do what they will with their creations.
I suppose that your warning about peeking but not using will have even more force now....
Later.

I will only say that the algorithm and the evaluation is almost the same.
The main problem of Tom was not with the fact that tscp derivative was hosted but with the fasct that ananth tried to generate the impression that it is his program when at the top of every file there is:
"Tuxedo Chess Engine
Copyright (C) 2003-2004 Ananth Shrinivas.S
Author: Ananth Shrinivas.S"

He could probably get permission from Tom to write at the top of every file:

"Tscp chess engine slighly modified by Ananth Shrinivas.S by changing names of varaibles, functions and changing some weight in tables and adding some hash code."

Tom is not very protective of his work and he gives his permission almost every week for somebody to use tscp for research projects.
The problem is that the programmer tried to generate wrong impression that Tuxedo is his program and Tom cannot give his permission for that.

This was clearly a serious error on the part of the project. I think that in this case it sprang from a misunderstanding and not deliberation.
The new version is about 70 Elo stronger and also has Winboard functionality missing in the original.
At any rate, his intent was to use TSCP to test a parallel algorithm and then to write a bitboard version.

I would say not. I expect a new program from the authors soon anyway.
