The Windows version of Gothmog 0.4.8 is now released. The Linux and Mac OS X versions
will follow within a day or two. Version 0.4.8 is mainly a bugfix update, the changes compared
to 0.4.7 are very minor. The details:
Sends 'feature done=0' first in its feature list when running in xboard mode. I hope that
this will solve the timeout problems some people have reported when Gothmog plays black
in Winboard.
Support for the "show current line" feature in UCI2 added.
Several minor bugs in the search and eval have been fixed, and several search and eval
parameters tuned.
Default selectivity changed from 4 to 6.
An attempt has been made to fix a bug which occasionally caused Gothmog to play illegal
moves in the endgame when playing with tablebases. Because I no longer have any tablebases
installed myself, I haven't been able to test this, but I hope the problem is solved.
Gothmog 0.4.8 wasn't supposed to be any stronger than 0.4.7, but the limited tests I have
done indicate that the strength might be somewhat improved (I don't dare to guess how
much), at least at fast hardware or slow time controls. 0.4.8 seems stronger than 0.4.7 on
a Pentium IV 2.4 GHz, but I don't see any difference on my PowerBook G4 550 MHz.
