Hi all ,
Queen Class is updated by Ralf being halfway through with Nunn position 15 on Pentium IV 2.53 Ghz (time control 35/40)and with four rounds from Nunn position 9 on Athlon 2600+ (25/40). Games are available for download and in replay zone. Complete Rook Class games with Nunn postition 9 are now in replay zone, too. More will follow. This games are sorted by name of white player within this database.

Interim overall standings in Queen Class:

1   Green Light Chess 3.00.3.4    35.5/59
2   Jonny 2.64                    33.0/59
3   SlowChess 2.93a               32.5/59
4   ElChinito 3.25                32.5/59
5   WildCat 4                     32.0/59
6   Fruit 1.5t                    31.5/59
7   Amyan 1.593b                  29.5/59
8   King of Kings 2.56            29.0/59
9   Movei 00.8.247s               28.0/59
10  Amy 0.8.7b                    27.0/59
11  Dragon 4.5 CF                 26.0/59
12  Ufim 5.01                     17.5/59

Impressive performance by Green Light Chess and Jonny up to now. For me no surprise from my previous tournaments with long timecontrol. I wrote to both authors before the tournament that I suppose that their programs would perform around 30 Elo points better with more time. Dragon now joins the big group of engines all close together by performing very well with Nunn pos. 9 and 15 so far. We shall see. Still a lot of games to come.
We are just planning AEGT 2 in our private email group with some additional rules. Points for discussion are still how the List games with bug one move prior to mate should be adjudicated and if List will be allowed to participate in AEGT 2. If "hybrid" engines like Ruffian, Ktulu and Patriot (soon also SmarThink)will be included or not. The status of Gandalf 4.32f is debated.
How many classes we will run. For the moment votes here are equally split, no tester wants less groups, but some vote for having more classes. So I think we can at least also offer Knight Class, as we do not have to run a lot of gauntlets in AEGT 2, because their will be enough engine versions remaining unchanged and so nothing has to be done for rating purposes. I suppose we will have five classes with 12 engines each and this will be build not only by performance in the tournaments, but based on ratings from gauntlets, too. So Pro Deo and SOS 4 will of course also be in AEGT 2 and probably qualify for King Class. Will also began to run 48 games gautlets for qualification between Rook and Bishop Class and started with Queen. Averno, Eeyore, Greko, Horizon and others will follow. I will add gauntlets with Tytan, Chispa and Waster soon (note to Federico...you can send to me a newer beta, or I will use that one that performed quite well in my Nunn tournaments Chispa 4.052, same to Vasik, I could use Rybka 1.6.0.1 if you do not have a new version ready).
Authors of private engines are encouraged to participate in qualify for AEGT 2 Bishop and Knight Class (maybe some will also get higher). I am thinking of Chiron and Nullmover from those I already had in Nunn tournaments. But there seem to be other strong ones like Borer and Muse. Fafis now has so good results that it would have to play either a gauntlet between Queen and Rook Class or even between King and Queen Class. But version 1.0.9 would be needed for that.
Okay, all who think that their engines are strong enough, no matter if private or publically available, can write to any of the testers or to hvankempen@web.de and in case of a lot of interest we will draw lots, because we will not be able to run gauntlets for all. We explicitly discourage to send us clones, they will be detected sooner or later.
And again, also practically all testers want to continue we could need more for more games with long timecontrols. Those who apply now can still participate in voting.
Two changes will be done in the future. The double round robins should not be run in gauntlet style, because this distorts the overall crosstables. From AEGT 2 to AEGT 3 there will be two engines at least to promote and demote between the classes. Two more ranked 9 and 10 in the higher class and ranked 3 and 4 in the lower class will play a relegation tournament. New engines will be added according to their strength to the classes. Engine versions that improved a lot and are still not in will have a chance by a gauntlet to qualify.

Something seems strange in this game
Wildcat got an advantage but it seems that it got tired after 120 moves(look at the search depth of wildcat from move 121)

Hello Uri,
two possible explainations....
First one: WildCat supports tablebases, so I still did not check if this is a position with 6 men for example where it already accesses the 5 men database. A lot of engines slow down then dramatically, for instance Shredder.
Second possibility: this was a game on Ralf´s computer. He gives on his Pentium IV 2.53 Ghz 35 minutes for 40 moves, then again 35 minutes for 40 moves (second time control) and for the third time control 30 minutes for the rest of the game after move no. 80, because it is not possible in Fritz GUI to have the third time control also with x moves in x minutes. Either WildCat has a time management that is a bit risky (because we play without Fischer bonus here) or this third time control is something not programmed in WildCat. Few games last that long and other engines handle this good, maybe with the example of Slow Chess the only one with one time exceed so far (in a game with more than 170 moves).
Best Regards
Heinz

Hi Heinz,
if you set all fileds for the 3rd timecontrol to zero, the GUI will use the timecontrol from 1st and 2nd timecontrol.
The settings on Ralf's computer should be changed!!

Hello Christian,
yes, I know, the whole tournament would be started anew. So will be done here means from next positions onwards and for the gauntlets.

Hello Heinz and Christian !
An even better way is to set time control only in the first time control zone (eg 40 moves in 40 minutes) and to set all other fields (parts two and three) to 0. This advice was given by Odd Gunnar Malin, and it works very well here : time control repeats ever and ever (80, 120, 160, 200 moves...)

Hi Olivier,
sounds good, I knew there was no way to give a rest time for third time control in order to avoid those eight hour matches with more than 200 moves and bishops of opposite colours, just performing another pawn move before the 50 move might be valid. Looking really forward to those :-).

Hello Igor,
yes, I know. Best will be to change to x move in x repeated, even if games lasts 200 moves and more.
Congratulations to big advances with Wild Cat.
