Hi,
The Baron 0.21 is released. Main features:
- 1.3-1.5 faster (nodecount)
- Annoying hashing bug removed that caused blunders in really simple (usually won) positions.
Strength may have improved about 50-100 points compared to 0.19.
Also: Ranking page is now filled in. It can give some indication on the development of the Baron. Please look at the text above the list before commenting on the fairness of the list: It was never meant to be a fair list.
Have fun with it,
Richard.

Hi Richard
That' s really a pity :(( because my deadline is closed and I cant
find a reason according to my rules which should allow me to change
the versions. The only way to revise my decision would be to find
a 'heavy' bug such as often crashing or high percentage of time losses
but this does not happen yet on my machine.
Btw I cant find version 0.19 anyway in your rating list?
Best regards,
Günther

Baron 0.21 is still not working properly under WinBoard 4.2.3 but under ChessBase-GUI I have so far encountered no problems.

That's correct. I haven't tested versions 0.17-0.19 on playing strength. They were released because of timing problem and contained only minor changes on evaluation and search.
Although 0.20 is not released, I tested it because it contained major changes in eval, so it is in the list. I would have released it, but after starting the test I corrected an important error so I released 0.21 instead (after testing it again).
bye,
Richard.

I will work on compatibility problems the coming time so I hope I can find the source of the problems. Next week I'm quite busy with other things, but you can expect me to get back to you the next weekend ...

I may already have found something when I tried Winboard with the Baron myself.
Default timecontrol was given by the command: level 0 4:02 2 which means a blitz level. This was supported by the Baron on the interface, but not in the search routine. So when calculating the amount of time left per move, a division by zero happened.
So, if you're using blitz time controls: Use something else. I will release a version that corrects it soon, probably tomorrow.
If you have a different problem, please send me the winboard.debug by email:
mailto:pijltjes@wish.net
Thanks,
Richard.
