Hi!
I have made Requiem, my chess engine, available for download. It is not complete version as many WB features are still missing, but it will play decent chess. Any comments and bugreports are welcome!

Hi Severi,
Congratulates with the release of Requiem!

Is a parameter needed in winboard ini?
An other question: Do it force draw to winboard if 3 move rep or 50 moves rule?
Thanks and best wishes,
Leo.

I made an exception for your new engine and invited it in my tourney.
This applies only for this special case as the number of participants
was odd and I would have played for myself being No 106.
I should note that not every available WB engine is integrated here.
They should at least fullfill three characteristica:
1 relatively stable
2 sth around 1500+
3 no clone
Your engine passed all of this. A little disadvantage may be that it
has to take my place in the starting list (Swiss 19Rds).
More details at my Site - link beyond.
The games should start tomorrow and pairing is already done for Rd 1.
Best regards,
Günther

Ouch, I just had invited Requiem as No 106 that I dont need to play in
my own tourney. perhaps I have to make some more testing until tomorrow.
I let it play some games but stopped them when it was winning.
But after your post I let it run again versus Aldebaran070 in a 4/50 game
and it did very well in realation to time control!
It played moves 41-50 in 8 seconds and of course won...
May be you found a bug in your first game ;)

Hi Leo,
This is really strange...? There seems to be _no_problem on my
machine with its time management.I played another game with
15min/50moves and it does very well against Replicant 11rnd!
(BTW the posted game before was 4min/50moves - a little question:
how do you get the time control in the pgn header? if not manually)

I have seen similar problems, with my engine working on my
system without problems in x moves in x minutes timecontrols,
but not on the systems of some other people.
This may be what happens here.
I fixed it by throwing out the internal clock of my engine.
It now fully trusts what Win/XBoard tells it.

A trollish subject line ;-) .
I used the release of your engine to finish an older "project" of mine.
Requiem definitely seems to be a _very_ decent engine for a first release. It reaches impressive depths.
Time management definitely looked kind of risky but no real problem in my games.
A funny and unusual way of displaying mate announcements.
In the first game against Tiger Requiem missed an easy mate though and played 18. Re1?? instead.
In the second game it allowed its bishop to be buried on h2 to Tiger's advantage.
But overall it definitely was too strong for the little Tiger and outsearched it like mad.

Also I have finished my series of games with Tiger 14.6 on a Palm Vx against some of the weaker WinBoard engines on an Athlon 1333 . Question was : is it possible to compair engines of similar strength even if the hardware difference is outrageous ? After all I tend to think the result is - yes . But make your own judgement , here is the data :

Hi!
I have made Requiem, my chess engine, available for download. It is not complete version as many WB features are still missing, but it will play decent chess. Any comments and bugreports are welcome!
Check out the homepage.

Snipped a lot of games

Hi Peter,
How did you played this games - manually I suppose?
And how did you got the resumed time in some of the pgn as I
thought WB does not save it?
Regards,
Günther

Thanks and best wishes,

Ouch, I just had invited Requiem as No 106 that I dont need to play in
my own tourney. perhaps I have to make some more testing until tomorrow.
I let it play some games but stopped them when it was winning.
But after your post I let it run again versus Aldebaran070 in a 4/50 game
and it did very well in realation to time control!
It played moves 41-50 in 8 seconds and of course won...
May be you found a bug in your first game ;)
Btw here it plays mostly 2.e5 in this opening, hmm?

Hi Günther,
the output of "TimeControl" in normal for Winboard, but i have never sawn an output like in your games. Which GUI do you use, because i never saw "PlyCount" or "EventDate" in a Winboard pgn file.

Hi Peter,
How did you played this games - manually I suppose?
And how did you got the resumed time in some of the pgn as I
thought WB does not save it?
Correct.
A few WinBoard engines don't report the results like WinBoard expects it if they deliver mate ( Requiem is one of them ) so the games weren't saved automatically . In case that happened and I didn't know about it in advance I had to rebuild some PGNs out of the game history of Tiger itself. I used Shredder as a tool which includes the times in its PGN => the times have no meaning - they only show how long it took me to re-enter the moves of the game into Shredder :) .
Regards,
pete

Hi Günter,
i think Gian-Carlo have given the answer about the time controle of Requiem, about the time control in the pgn header: I dont know, it was always there :-)))
Best wishes,
Leo.

Hi Leo,
I saw that you are using WIN2000, may be that's the difference
as I am using WIN98SE?
About the pgn I know the reason now I suppose...pgn files are
managed by Chessbase8 on my machine and it seems to remove this
header and add some others ;-)
Be well,
Günther

Hi!
I have made Requiem, my chess engine, available for download. It is not complete version as many WB features are still missing, but it will play decent chess. Any comments and bugreports are welcome!
Check out the homepage.

I believe it is Finnish because of the URL which ends with "FI".
