Matheus 1.4 (Release: World Cup 2002 Champion!!)

Hi Friends,
This is to inform you that a new release of Matheus is available at:
www.winboard.hpg.ig.com.br/wb.htm
www.geocities.com/leod_nl/matheus.zip
Matheus 1.4 is still a very simple chess engine. It has no opening book, no hash table, no null moves, no etc...
but it is very fast!! (Run it in text mode and see)
If a top WB engine plays with Matheus 1.4 in a very fast time control it can face a surprise! Give it a try. Set a time control like 50 moves in 20 seconds or 40 moves in 10 seconds and then tell me what happened.
But the test should be made in a same base, I mean as Matheus does not support opening books, end game table base and so forth, the other engine should play at least without opening book and EGTB as well. Hash table is allowed.
With the best Brazilian wishes! (Soccer World Cup 2002 Champion)
Josué

Since GreKo is not TOP engine, it played with opening book :)

Hi Friends,
This is to inform you that a new release of Matheus is available at:
www.winboard.hpg.ig.com.br/wb.htm
www.geocities.com/leod_nl/matheus.zip
Josué
Hi Vladimir and Telmo,
Thanks for the matches!
Not too bad for Matheus.
Lose to Greko by 3 1/2 - 2 1/2 is not a bad result for Matheus as Greko seems to be a good engine. You are doing a good job Vladimir!
But you did not follow the instructions. NO OPENING BOOKS. :-)
In the other match, conducted by Telmo, again Matheus was not too bad.
Lose to those engines by 8 1/2 - 6 1/2 is an encouraging result for me.
Yes, Matheus is not like our soccer team yet but, I hope it will get there. :-))
Thanks again for your attention and,
Best Brazilian wishes!
Josue.

Vladimir has protested that Greko is not a top engine, but who knows. After all, Turkey -in theory- is not a top soccer team, yet Brazil had to fight hard in order to defeat them... and, in the first match, it seems that the referee had to fight hard as well...

...it is quite capable to win without the referee's help :) :) :) :)
Now, seriously speaking, I have to say that Matheus' play is a nice surprise. Not just fast: your engine often plays sensible chess. You are doing a good job as well.
Pra frente Brazil!

Hi, Josue!
to be a good engine. You are doing a good job Vladimir!

I tried to play with opening book off, but... the same games tend to repeat again and again... And I turned the book on again. Anyway, in every game only first 2-3 moves were played from the book :)
Thank you for Matheus!
I think, this engine is suitable as good sparring partner both for me and GreKo :)
