My observations are not that different. Aristarch seems to have a very solid playing style. At least it has been very difficult to beat so far at longer timecontrols. Though admittedly, the rather limited number of games so far is inconclusive in terms of precise evaluation. I've added a few games at the end.Two observations:
1. Aristarch 4.37 is the absolute king of draws (36.1% of its games), no other engine has produced that many draws. Aristarch 4.21 for comparison just 23.7%. This difference is signifcant.
2. Aristarch 4.37 did very well against the strong engines, it held up its own against Ruffian 2.0.0 and it has beaten Aristarch 4.21 in the direct comparison. However, it scored comparatively low against the engines lower down in my rating list (Amy, Francesca, Tcb, Resp etc.), which essentially pushed its rating down.
Generally I think that it is very unlikely that Aristarch 4.37 is the strongest free Winboard engine.
I must admit I'm starting to like Aristarch. Decent book with booklearning, good time usage and a tenacious playing style. A good package overall. My only complaint is the long name. Aristarch 4.40 should suffice.
I agree. But I believe it to be among the pack behind Ruffian. As your rating list suggests, there's little difference between Ktulu, SmarThink, Aristarch, Crafty and probably El Chinito.

I agree, Aristarch is a very good package. Though, somehow I thought/hoped that 4.37 is going to approach Ruffian 1.0.x, which is not exactly the case, but it is part of the pack behind Ruffian, which is an achievement.
Too early to say anything, but I am currently running El Chinito and it has started very strongly.
