Hi Roger,
I have seen many games won by Alekhin where he played badly openings.
For instance
Marco - Alekhine, Gaaga 1921
Bogoliubov - Alekhine, Karlsbad 1923
There are also many games of his that finished as draw after big superiority of his opponents in opening phase.
Conclusion:
If you want really "perfect" book, you have to tune it during ages.
Regards.

Hello Mike,
I fear that S. is correct in his assessment. However you have hit the nail on the head. Tuning that book for amateur basement level contests - ugh!

Later.

Hi Mike,
Yes, it is truth. World champions are not only excellent players, but also players able to play chess under pression with impressive strength, and this way, many times, they managed, step by step, to make desappear their opponents positional advantage from the opening phase.
Alekhine even managed to save positionaly lost game against Capablanca.
