What are the units for the position score as output by Thinker 4.5b? It is definitely not in pawn units, in fact it looks like something close to a third of a pawn?
Anybody knows?
Thanks

Also, it seems that the depth reached is extremely small. I analyze a position for several minutes (PIII 933 MHz) and it is still at depth 8!

It is in pawn units. But the score is not just material count. It is that, plus/minus positional score (which in Thinker, is now very agressive).

I just checked as I have Thinker playing at the moment, but at the moment it is a balanced position, scores around 0.
Anyway, what I saw was that Thinker 4.5b is e.g. a Queen down in the endgame but its score shows -3.xx. I had also situations that Ruffian sees +6 for itself, while Thinker shows -2 and Thinker is already something like a light piece and a pawn behind or similar, where there was certainly no positional compensation. Mate code is also 44 or something, which is at least unusual. I am running it with Winboard 4.2.x.
