/mg command line switch "bug" in TM-Zip exe

Postby EdCollins » 10 May 2011, 01:59

H.G.

I know your WinBoard-TM.zip executable (http://hgm.nubati.net/WinBoard-TM.zip) is not an official release, but I wanted to point something out to you, that you might not be aware of.

When I use the above executable to run a match from the command line, such as

winboard.exe /cp /tc 10 /inc 0 /mg 20 /fcp "polyglot1466b ../_PG/glaurung.ini" /scp "polyglot1466b ../_PG/stockfish21.ini" /lpf "d:\chess\pgn\french.fen" /sgf="d:\chess\pgn\french-games.pgn"

I DON'T get a 20-game match, as I expect.

Everything runs fine, but instead of playing 20 games before exiting, WinBoard quits after playing the number of games that I have listed in my winboard.ini file.

/defaultMatchGames=10

My version of WinBoard 4.5.2 operates differently. 4.5.2 does override the winboard.ini file settings with the chosen command-line settings.

(Obviously the work-around is easy... don't use the /mg command-line switch and just set the number of games desired in the winboard.ini file. But that's probably not what is desired, so I thought you'd like to know.

Indeed, this is not as it is supposed to be. Default match games should only be used for matches started from the menu. I will check it out. Thanks for reporting.
