Attention- Peter Fendrich: Alaric Problem

Hi, Peter. I am running a chessbase gui and loading Alaric as a UCI engine. It doesnt matter whether i load 0702 or 0702b. The same thing happens with either. Its not life or death, and i dont suppose it affects the engine's play, but its just a little disconserting. When loaded, it shows the engine as "Alaric Alaric 0702. Is there any way you can fix it so it wont show Alaric twice in the name after loading it. I went into the 1kb UCI file that is created upon loading, and the name is Alaric Alaric 0702- which i changed to Alaric 0702- taking out one of the "Alarics" But then in the list of engines to choose from, it does then show it as Alaric 0702, as it should. But when you pick the engine to play, it still shows it with the double name. Strange. As i say, its not life and death, but i sure wish you could fix this so it shows the name correctly.

Thanks and regards,

I can acknowledge the same, or very similar name display problem with the GUI version Fritz 8 of May 18th, 2006, in Win98SE. But I found, it is only a problem in the engine output window. In the save game data, i.e. in a tournament database, the name is recorded correctly.

I tried to solve this problem by editing the .uci file in various ways, but that didn't succeed. Also, I seem to remember that there was another engine longer time ago which had the same problem, but I forgot which one.

Meanwhile, I have finished my Blivorix tests with Alaric 0702 (UCI) and it performed at a blitz strength level between Delfi 5.0 and Colossus 2006f.

Thanks Mike for that info. If it shows the name correctly in the pgns, that is all that matters. As long as i dont have to keep editing the pgns for it i am fine. I never thought to check that. I just assumed it would show the double name. Again, thanks for your help. I know now its not a problem on my end.

Regards

I haven't had a chance to check yet, but this might work:

If you're using Fritz 10 GUI, go into Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Chessbase/Engines.UCI.
Open the Alaric file in there and change the name of the engine as necessary.

Havent tried it in Fritz 10, but i did in Fritz 9. The only problem with that theory on my end is Alaric is the only UCI engine that for some reason does not produce a file in the list you are referring to. I tried playing games then checking for it- restarting my computer then checking for it- removing the wb exe from the folder and then loading it and then checking for the file again. No luck in any instances. Strange indeed. I think i feel another migraine coming on. :x

Down but not out regards

I went in thru Fritz 10 and installed Alaric. It did then show the file in the place you are referring to/ I changed the name of the file, and went inside the file and changed the name of the program. I also changed the name of the program inside the 1 kb uci file created upon installation in chessbase engines as to read Alaric 0702b instead of Alaric Alaric 0702b- the same change i made in the other file you were referring to. Nothing helps. It still shows the double name in the guis. But at least in all the pgns in all 4 of my chessbase guis, it shows the correct name- Alaric 0702b. So we wont have to fool with editing the pgns for each of its games. Thats the most important thing anyway. If you can make it work any diff., then either your computer or your brain is much better than mine. I wouldnt doubt if both were the case.

Hello
Yes that is a bug in the uci version.
I understand it is annoying but you have to wait until mars when I will release next update.
There are still some winboard commands missing like Analyze that I will add and also some more book functions including a new better book.
