1. Make sure that the version you have has an executable dated:
03/24/00 at 10:41 PM
Each of the older ones have some definite problems that have been fixed.
2. You can't use pondering. It does not work correctly.
Otherwise, I doubt if you will have any problems. I had three different machines running Amy all weekend, and none of them had any problems.

Dann, thanks!
I have just downloaded the SMP version of Amy dated March 27. It works flawlessly only when I remove the tablebase path. Otherwise, when it starts probing for tbases it exits generating errors (Win 2000). No other problems, there is excellent multithread support and everything else seems to works nicely.
What could be the problem?

I don't know. Mine works great with tablebase files. What is the exact timestamp for the binary. Only the one made at 10:41 PM has all issues resolved.

You can use ponder under WinBoard, even though it's a bit peculiar. Everytime you toggle Show thinking on/off it makes a move. Quite amusing, but not very useful. BTW, everything works fine and Amy finished 8 games in my tournament ML-8 without problems. There's a new Amy book at my website, it's made of 20K games and with flatten 1 its size is 1944 Kb. Without flatten 1 it was 15 Mb.
Best wishes...

The binary I got is dated 3/27/2000, time is 22:27, size of file 385.024. Without tbases it got 286/300 WAC at 60 moves in 300 seconds.
Could you please supply the exact location where to d/l the corrected SMP version in case this one is flawed? Thanks.

Most of them are not important (from the *last* one posted yesterday). The changes are as follows:
0. Made some changes recommended by Thorsten G. so that the code base would stay consistent to the model he wishes (dependencies put into Amy.h rather than C code files, for instance)
1. Quieted a couple lint squeaks (a static code analyzer that gripes about every possible thing -- probably not important).
2. Small performance boost by including all the C files into one file so that the compiler can inline like a madman (new file amy.c in the distribution).

More notes and explanations:
There is no execution difference from the above changes.
There is a very tiny chance that the above change fixed a bug or two (though rare) and an even smaller chance that it introduced bugs.
The above change will make the program run a tiny bit faster.

Dann, many thanks. Got the new binary, works great with tablebases too. A new toy for a 48-yr old :) You don't want to know about the looks I get from my wife and daughter though.
Djordje
Glad you liked it and also that I am not the only one to receive the puzzled expressions.
