Hi folks,
5 rounds have been played in the 1st division. Ruffian has a one-point lead, but it is not over yet. AnMon and Francesca are in serious trouble.
There were 3 games in round 4 that are worth special attention. What they have in common is: how to lose a dead draw position. Two of them are twins: how avoiding repetition leads to defeat.
Dragon - Aristarch: At move 72 a human player would have stopped the clock, gone to the arbiter and claimed a draw saying: 'All my remaining moves will be made with the bishop, taking care that it will not be captured free. I will only make an exception when black sacrifices his rook.' Unfortunately, Dragon is a machine and he thought it was a good idea to centralize the king in the endgame...
Green Light Chess - Ruffian: GLC tried to avoid repetition, which I don't understand since he had a score of about +0.15 for several moves.
Francesca-Deep Sjeng: The same. In this case, however, Francesca had a score above 2, so her decision is at least partially understandable.
