Matt,
It was a tough loss that should have been a draw! Ah, the joys of
computer chess. By the way, I think your engine is anything but
"dorky", maybe it's time for a name change ;)

It should not continue in KN vs K.
movei knows to claim a draw in this situation.
I am surprised that strong engines like rebel and Dorky cannot do it.

Uri,
My guess, is that it was one of the items on Matt's TODO list.
I'm also guessing that it just got moved to the top of the list!

It's anything but dorky :) but I rather like such names. Much like Lambchop/Patzer :) and it says something about the humour of the authors :).

As far as I know, Chrilly is Austrian, Dieter is German and I'm Australian with Irish parents. I would give most of the credit to the Authors of the chess engine, so the question is, is it Austrian or is it German? I'm not sure what the answer is to that question. Are we able to pop off a quick email to Dieter or Chrilly to ask them?
Cheers,
Tom

Hi,
i have the book "Schach am PC" where the program is from. The copyright says, if someone made bigger changes in the program, he can rename it, but the new program name must include the part "MAX" like the engines DelphiMax, EnginMax or MyMax which are written also out of Minimax.
Perhaps you should rename it then to KanguruhMax or MaxKanguruh :)

How about MadMax? That's Australian! With kanguruh, I pulled all the good bits from Minimax and all the goods bits from Deep BASIC (my DOS chess program), and after I did that, I then added new stuff. Kanguruh doesn't play anything like Minimax and it is a stronger player. My Winboard port of Minimax plays exactly the same as the original Minimax except it's about 20-30% faster because it's now a 32bit program. Oh, it will play differently when it comes to 3 move repetition, but thats the only change to it's evaluation that I can think of. So I think it should keep the Minimax name.
Cheers,
Tom
