Amy 0.7 flexes here muscles

Crafty had several disadvantages, starting as black and no pondering {which Dr. Hyatt does not like}. But in this very long time control game, Amy showed some real muscle. Crafty typically excells at these long time control events, even (not infrequently) pounding the commercial programs. I have heard nothing but shouts of praise from all the Amy testers. Looks like the real deal. ;-)
Congrats to Thorsten Greiner for a real neat program on the rise.

Congrats to Thorsten Greiner for a real neat program on the rise.

AND thank you Dan for compiling it for Winboard. I haven't tried version 7 yet but I have tested(and continue to) version 6 and found it to be quite strong. So far, against SOS and Anmon 5.06 Amy has come close to 50%. At 40m/120m Sos leads 4-3 and at 90s a move Sos won a 20 game match by the close score 10-8 2draws. As of this writing Anmon leads 6-4 in 90s a move! All games without ponder on a Pentium 400. I intended to also play Amy against Phanlax and
Tcb or Gromit 3 but now I think I'll start over again. Thanks again to you and
Thank you and congratulations to Thorsten for a fine program.

Thank you (and Thorsten) for repairing ponder under WinBoard. It's a great experience to be badly mauled with ponder on :o). Are bad chess players generally masochists? I think I am.
Best wishes...

I agree. Why settle for abject humiliation, when we can have a heart-rendering, spirit-crushing, good, old-fashioned, butt-whuppin' at the hands of a lifeless hunk of tin.

Dann,
Reading your exquisite, poetic and exuberant definition of humiliation at the hands of a computer chess monster, I cannot but keep sipping my gin that is the quintessence of an exceptionally well-mannered martini and occasionally shift to a happy vodka, which may burst into song on its way down... It helps, it helps... who cares now about being 9-1 down against this stupid cyborg? :-)))
Poetically yours,
Djordje

What additional options did you use under WinBoard? It might be possible to duplicate the errors on one computer.

I just ran several times performing fast games with that setting.
What was the other program?
What were the other paramters used for both programs?

Crafty.
All problems was caused by the brain damaged operator! I suspect it was me :-(.
I set cpu=2 in .amyrc. I am running a dualboard and I have tested SMP (which works fine) before and I have forgotten to change it. After I changed this to cpu=1 the problem did not occur anymore.
BTW: /reuse is the default! To switch reuse off you have to use /reuseFirst=false /reuseSecond=false. The information in Frank's detail page is *wrong* (see Winbord helpfile)!
I beg your pardon

Hi Mogens!
Why do Francesca need these options then? Francesca won't work with just /mg.
True, but it won't work with /reuse also!
Lets's test this!
Test system: dualboard, ponder allways on.
Winbord helpfile:
"/reuse or /xreuse, or /reuseFirst true|false /reuse2 or /xreuse2, or /reuseSecond true|false
If this option is True (the default), WinBoard uses the same chess engine process repeatedly when playing multiple games. If the option is False, WinBoard kills off the chess engine after every game and starts a fresh one for the next game. Starting a fresh chess engine can be slow, so it is not recommended. However, some chess engines may not work properly when reused, such as versions of Crafty earlier than 12.0."

Conclusion:
1. /reuse is the default. If you want to switch this off you have
to use "/reuseFirst=false /reuseSecond=false" as in test4.
Otherwise the program will _not_ be refreshed what leads to
errors with some programs as in test5.
2. It seems that Francesca does not recognize neither draw by repetition nor
by 50-moves rule.
3. It seems there is a potential bug in Winboard. Sometimes you have to use
/reuse2 sometimes /reuseSecond (same to /reuse, /reuseFirst) to avoid crashes.
Best wishes

Gutentag Volker,
Here are the results of the danish jury.
I tested Francesca-Amy with different options.
a) /debug /mg 2: 1. game ok, 2. no response from Francesca (no surprise).
b) /debug /mg 2 /reuse /reuse2: 1. game ok, 2. game no response from Francesca.
c) /debug /mg 2 /-reuse /-reuse2: 1.game ok, 2. game ok.
d) /debug /mg 2 /reuseFirst true /reuseSecond true: 1. game ok, 2. no response.
e) /debug /mg 2 /reuseFirst false /reuseSecond false: 1. game ok, 2. game ok.
Conclusions:
1. /reuseFirst and /reuseSecond is true by default as stated in documentation.
2. /reuse and /reuse2 should be replaced with /-reuse and /-reuse2 in documentation.
3. Francesca don't work unless engines are reloaded, which means either option c or e.
4. There's a lot of Illegal in debug. Don't seem to matter though.
5. Francesca often writes: Please enter your move (or just enter to play b6d4).
I don't know what that means?
Best wishes...
Mogens

Conclusions:
1. /reuseFirst and /reuseSecond is true by default as stated in documentation.
2. /reuse and /reuse2 should be replaced with /-reuse and /-reuse2 in documentation.
This is not true because:
/reuseFirst false is equal to /-reuse and /reuseFirst true is equal to /reuse.
So the /-reuse just isn't mentioned in documentation as far as I know.

Best wishes...
