This means Phalanx relegates to the 2nd div.
Baron needs a 3-1 win against Thinker to promote, which is not unthinkable. Thanks KoK!
Richard.

Which is really, really sad. :-(
Phalanx is still one of the coolest free engines out there, IMHO. And it is
by far the coolest open-source engine. I hope it will be back in division 1
in the next season.
Good luck, Richard!

Leila might just sneak into the Premier division even though it finished 5th out of 18 in Divsion 1.
I wonder why Ktula which won division 2 was not allowed to attempt to do a double jump into the Premier division the way Kaissa 1.7 was allowed to (successfully) attempt a double jump from division 3 into division 1.
My guess is that Ktula would do better in the Premier than Leila.

Hello Richard,
I am the second biggest fan of your engine so I am hanging in there. Thinker crashed Arasan - with which the Baron drew - but was in turn manhandled by King Of Kings - with which the Baron drew again - so the game is wide open.
Thinker is dangerous though. I admit that I play shorter timecontrol games but over time I have observed that Thinker is not an adversary to be taken lightly.
Until then...
Later.

Yeah I think it is too bad Phalanx will be relegated to division 2, but I think it says a lot about the strength of engines in the tournament. In every division if your engine isn't improving it will be moving down.

No
Scidlet 3.4 b5 did not improve but it did not help it not to promote.
I agree that chances of Phalanx to promote without improvement are very small when the opponents engines become better.

Yes, it does. There are a lot of strong engines out there.
Perhaps we should be impressed that Phalanx has managed to stay so close to the
top for such a long time, despite the fact that it hasn't been updated since
January 2000.

P.S. Sorry for taking a long time to reply to your last e-mail, I hope to
drop you a line within a day or two.

YES!
It is you that is wrong and me that is right!
But seriously, I was talking longer term trends and not about one engine in one instance. Sorry I have to clarify this. For example, if Scidlet doesn't improve it will eventually start moving down as others improve their engines and more new strong ones appear. Of course this point is obvious enough I probably didn't need to state it to begin with. It just seemed a little funny to me that someone might disagree. Of course if someone were to disagree it would be Uri.

No worries, I think I've found everything I need about MTD, and it looks really interesting to me. Soon I'm going to implement it and start testing it out.
I did a quick implemenatation and the search was quite a bit slower but I think this is due to a buggy Alpha/Beta + PVS implementation that I currently have. So I probably need to spend some time working on this before I can make MTD work.

I am afraid that gothmog is going to be one of the engines that is going to prevent Phalanx to go back to the first division.
looking at the table it seems that Frenzee,Terrra and Cerebero promote so
Gothmog will play promotion match against Horizon and it has good chances to win that match.
