Hello,
Dann has made an experimental version of PolyGlot available:
[ftp://cap.connx.com/pub/chess-engines/new-approach/polyglot-experimental.exe]
Since he gave me no news at all and did not mention it was available, I expect it's not working at all. Anybody can tell me more about it?

It looks like a minor bug in Alfil, regarding illegal moves in the current position. Don't worry about this, as the release version will ignore those problems.

This looks like the communication between Winboard and BookThinker.
I have no idea what the "->:" means.
Only Lance can help us here.
I think the problem is between BookThinker and PolyGlot.
Does PolyGlot still claim to be receiving EOF?
This is important because I/O is done by new routines now.

Just in case I was not clear enough.
I am interested in knowing if there are new problems with this version.
Are things working fine with bug-free engines such as Yace for instance?

If I recall, BookThinker does not allow arguments to be passed to PolyGlot right?
PolyGlot looks for a file called "polyglot.ini" now, which does not exist.
Make a copy from "fruit.ini",

I've seen in the Taskmanager that Shredder unloaded and started again. In Winboard I only see "Waiting for first chessprogram" and it seems Crafty didn't start.

Bug in List. Don't use it for testing anymore.
This is good behaviour.

This is exactly the case in which I want BookThinker log.
I could close the engine properly when receiving EOF but that would not explain why I don't receive "quit" first.
Thanks for the feedback, I think this version is "fine" (no more problems than before).

I'm not familiar with BookThinker log notation, but I fail to see what this has to do with PolyGlot. See the "illegal move" after "ics" and "ping". Does BookThinker speak "protover 2"?
I think we can't solve this problem by ourselves.

It works now.
To add /firstProtocolVersion=1 and /secondProtocolVersion=1 to my winboard.ini in the lines where I call Bookthinker + Shredder does the trick. It prevents Bookthinker from coplaining about "ics -" and "ping 1".
Unfortunately my clipboard doesn't work anymore. I have to reboot and will post the games and debugs later.
