Some tests with Polyglot (date 2004-06-04)

I'll post some results of test here I'm doing with the new version of Polyglot.
I'll concentrate on UCI-only engines. I already tested some engine which
supports Winboard but I'll stop that now. Those which can't use or doesn't have
an own book will use Bookthinker too.
Setup: For every engine using Polyglot I have a directory of its own with a copy
of Polyglot inside. If Bookthinker is used there is also a copy of Bookthinker
and of the thinker.dat in it. Bookthinker is renamed to "Bookthinker+{name of
the engine} to avoid confusion. The polyglot.ini directs to the directory of the
corresponding engine.
If Bookthinker is in use I recommend to add /firstProtocolVersion=1 and
/secondProtocolVersion=1 in the adaquate lines of the winboard.ini.
Otherwise Bookthinker complains about version2 commands and that
will confuse Polyglot and everything stops.
I don't use /-reuse, /-reuse2.
Only problem so far: List. It somehow terminates:

Hi Volker,
Would you please test Delphimax too? I find it still hanging
with WBTM, or opening multiple GUI windows in a multi match
under WB. (I suppose it is because DelphiMax comes with own
GUI, which is launched in every game)
Best regards,
Günther

I am not very familiar with NTFS (never use FAT32 unless you can't avoid it), but can symbolic links (.LNK files?) be used to avoid duplicating POLYGLOT.EXE and CYGWIN.DLL?
This is clearly a bug in List, and I am not sure I want to add work-around code for it.
Fabien.

In special cases such as this one it might be useful to send me some documentation, just in case it helps me anticipating new problems.
If there is a readme.txt, that's exactly the sort of thing I could be looking for.

I've never used that thing before, but I have the same problems. I tested it in Arena and it chrashed it too. Strange...
