Thanks Leo.
I think my blood pressure has almost returned to normal. Frankly, I wish both
ZZZZZ and Djinn could have shared the championship (it's obvious that ZZZZZ
is easily as strong as Djinn). My hat's off to Gijsbert and his engine!!
I also think my wife can breath easier now, since I won't be constantly
searching for an internet cafe and can start to enjoy our vacation.
regards,
--tom
P.S. Of course, the 2nd division is heating up so the fun isn't over!!

When I first became interested in Winboard (and chess), Crafty was the engine that got me started. Whipped my *** repeatedly. I could not believe that a program of this strength was actually given away.
Since then others have made their mark but it is good to see the old master in the hunt again. The reports of its death were much mistaken it seems.

Congratulations Uri, your engine is taking no prisoners.
Please do not post about how poorly your engine is doing in Nunn matches against Junior. It is doing well here, bask in it.

As I posted only recently, I will bet that when all was said and done, Leo was going to keep the tie-break machinery on ice. Congratulations to Tom. Of course as you go up in Division you need to be careful. You swim with the big boys you need to stay a step or two in front.

Or end up as fish food.

doing well is only a result of opponents who give gifts to it.

In the last game of the match Betsy got a winning position but it blundered twice to convert it to a loss.
The second blunder is a blunder that even weak humans can avoid easily.
In KRP vs KRP bersy decided to capture the rook of movei and let the pawn to promote instead of capturing the pawn and get KR vs KR endgame.
Here is the game and analysis by Crafty19.12 of move 66(p850 64 mbytes).
Interesting to note that crafty has problems to find the correct move but after search that is deep enough it finds it)
Betsy blundered by 66.h5 and 73.Rxh7

Almost every game that is lost is lost by a mistake of the losing engine.
This is true even of the strongest programs.
Every engine will make serious mistakes from time to time.
The best ones make very few of them.

Why does Uri not simply admit that Movei is very strong ?

I actually enjoy the humility of both authors. But let's not pretend they don't know how to write a chess engine that can tapdance on the heads of 90% of the other engines.

Matthias, are you insane? Then they would have to admit that the-I-do-understand-the-results-of-my-engine routine is all fake and they really do know how to write strong, competitive engines.
Imagine that!
:-)
Later.
